Two truckloads of food, donated by visitors, left Tohono Chul Park on Nov. 12 to be distributed by Interfaith Community Services. “700 pounds of food, enough to feed 350 people,” said Interfaith Community Services Executive Director, Bonnie Kampa. “What a wonderful gift!”
It’s the season to give, but Tohono Chul Park makes giving a priority year-round.
We give to support the health and well-being of our community through partnerships with other nonprofits, including social services groups. And we give to our community by bringing people into close contact with the astonishing diversity of the Sonoran Desert region. Everything Sonoran Desert that’s beautiful, fantastic and fun is here, from Peniocereus gregii making its one-night-only star appearance on our celebrated “bloom night,” to a coatimundi troop making its way through town to clamber about our riparian exhibit.
Long before I became the Executive Director of the Park in September, I was one of the many supporters of our “desert corner”—Tohono Chul in the Tohono O’odham language. The Park inspired my love for the Sonoran Desert and my passion for connecting people to nature, art and culture. Today we are rediscovering the direct and intimate relationship between healthy people and access to healthy lands and the natural world. But at the same time, Americans are more plugged-in and less connected to the natural world than ever before. In fact, most American consumers recognize hundreds of retail logos, but can’t identify ten plants and animals native to their region.
With your support, Tohono Chul Park will continue to unite people and place, to re-balance and nourish us as individuals and as a community just as its founders, Dick and Jean Wilson, envisioned with their inspired gift more than 25 years ago.
Please join me in celebrating this legacy of giving by making a generous tax-deductible donation to our Annual Fund today.
With Gratitude and Warm Regards,
Christine Conte, Ph.D.
