Best of Zuni – Silver and Stone
10am – 4pm, Febuary 10 – 12 (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) Free admission to the sale in the Education Center
The Park’s museum shops are excited to bring you a fabulous collection of jewelry and carvings by the Zuni. Best known for their intricate stone carved fetishes, they are also renowned for delicate stone mosaic jewelry.
A wonderful collection of high quality contemporary and vintage Zuni arts will be available including fetishes, fetish necklaces, bracelets, rings, chokers and squash blossom necklaces.
Santa Domingo shell and stone necklaces will also be available including work by Nestoria Coriz. There will be a one-of-a kind collectors’ items, a Zuni fetish bowl by Lena Boone with cornmeal and loose fetishes in the inside and a fetish nativity set.
New this show will be dancing and cuddly pottery bears by Taos artist Jason Mondragones. About 3” high, these bears are adorable – each bear has its own expression and hugs another bear.

Wild About Gourds – A Gourd Festival
10am – 4pm, March 15 – 17 (Thursday – Saturday) Free with regular Park admission
Over fifteen gourd artists from Arizona and southern California will be showcasing their work at the first Tohono Chul Park Gourd Festival. Thousands of gourds will be on display – wood-carved vessels, wood-burnt dolls and spirit figures, and containers featuring botanical materials woven into the gourd. This is an excellent opportunity to see how these talented artisans are utilizing the fruit of the gourd plant (genus Cucurbita) to create magnificent pieces of art. They will be for sale and classes will be offered in selecting, cleaning and preparing gourds.
In addition to the show and sale, gourd workshops will be schedule during the course of the Festival, and don’t forget to stop in the Entry Gallery (pg. 3) to see our companion exhibit, Artful Gourds. Watch for updates in the Desert Corner Express.
Artists in the Southwest have developed their own signature style and distinctive techniques. Many different styles of gourd work, from masks, jewelry, vessels and ornaments will be available to purchase. Natural gourds grown on the Park grounds will be available to purchase to give everyone a chance at creating their own work of art.

Mexican Arts Sale – Mata Ortiz Pottery | Oaxacan Carvings | Zapotec Rugs

Mata Ortiz pottery, named for the village in Chihuahua, Mexico where it originated and is still being produced, has achieved the impressive status of being one of the more innovative ceramics movements to evolve in the 20th century. Though steeped in the traditions of potters from the ancient past, today’s artists are continually reinventing styles that are remain exciting
and fresh.
Baudel Lopez, known for his superbly polished, painted and etched ollas (water vessels) and Jorge Quintana, a master of fineline decoration, will both be on hand to demonstrate their craft and share their vision.
