| The Queen of the Night Peniocereus greggii or night-blooming cereus, in all her glory. |
||
Each year, for one evening only, Tohono Chul Park opens its doors to visitors from around the world to experience the mystery, majesty and beauty of the Queen of the Night, the night-blooming cereus Peniocereus greggii. The Queen of the Night is here in abundance as Tohono Chul Park is home to the nation’s largest collection.
When the summer heat begins to build, the buds of the night-blooming cereus begin to appear. After a period of start-and-stop growth, these buds blossom in a mass blooming on one night between the end of May and late July. Experience the magnificent Peniocereus greggii in its full glory; let your senses be touched by their gorgeous flowers and breathe in their intense and intoxicating scent.
Each year, we begin updates of the progress of bud growth and projections of bloom night starting in May, continuing until we announce the event. Because the mass blooming of the Queen of the Night happens on a different night each year we will keep you updated on “her majesties” progress through our mail notification list. To join the notification list for bloom-night, email marketing@tohonochulpark.org and ask to be added to the list.
