Celebrate Tohono Chul Park and Volunteer!
Who? Volunteers are an essential part of Tohono Chul Park, participating in almost every facet of programming and administration.
What? Volunteer opportunities at Tohono Chul Park are as diverse as our active volunteer community — retail sales in our Museum Shops and Greenhouse, plant propagation and grounds maintenance, clerical support in administration, special events, or train to be a Docent interpreter.
When? Daily schedules are flexible; commit to a regular weekly shift or be available as a substitute — seasonal residents are welcome!
Why? To celebrate the desert, to find fulfillment in public service in the name of cultural and environmental preservation and to provide visitors to the Park with a welcoming and enriching experience!
How? Volunteer applications are always accepted. For an application or more information, contact Min Johnson at 742-6455 x 235 or firstname.lastname@example.org
. . . or be a Docent!
Who? Docents are trained volunteers excited by the rewarding challenge of interpreting the complex relationships between the plants, animals, and peoples of the Sonoran Desert for Park visitors.
What? Start by attending classes in desert ecology, geology, and interpretive techniques, as well as archaeology, native peoples and the history and mission of Tohono Chul Park. Upon graduation, service opportunities range from on-site tours to community outreach.
When? Wednesdays from 9am-4pm beginning the first week in October and lasting 18 weeks.
Why? So that visitors to the Park leave enriched by a greater understanding and appreciation of what it means to live with the desert.
How? Applications are now being accepted for the 2009-2010 Docent Class which begins October 7, 2009 with graduation on March 3. The class meets every Wed from 9 am to 4 pm, with Nov 25, Dec 23, and Dec 30 off for the holidays. Docents in training are expected to attend every class, and cannot miss more than two classes. Please join us for a Prospective Docent Coffee on Wed., Sept 16 at 10 am. Have a look at our flyer for more information or contact Min Johnson at 742-6455 x 235 or email@example.com.
Congratulations to the 2008 Tohono Chul Park Volunteers of the Year!
