Butterflies (and Birds) and Summer Blooms! |
|||
Travel to Garden Canyon in the Huachuca Mountains with butterfly expert Jim Brock and wildflower and bird fanatic Lynn Hassler. With a reasonable summer rainy season, the canyon will be transformed into a wildflower paradise with butterflies galore. Some of SE Arizona’s showiest species may be seen sipping nectar from the profuse thistle blooms or “puddling” at patches of damp soil. Expect to see Red-bordered and Nobokov’s Satyr, American Lady, Bordered Patch, Arizona Sister, Red-spotted Purple and more. In terms of flowers we hope to see Mexican star thistle, columbine, wild geranium, wild zinnia, gaillardia, scarlet creeper and Arizona blue curls to name a few. And, of course, there are always the birds, like Sulphur-bellied flycatcher, Painted Redstart, and even an Elegant Trogon if we’re lucky! Plan for moderate hiking. Cost includes transportation, guide services and a boxed lunch. $89 FILLED |
