The Gift of Angels - Edward McCain: Mission San Xavier del Bac
December 6, 2007 to January 22, 2008 in the Gallery

Mission San Xavier del Bac stands like a beacon on a vast desert plain. Its stuccoed white walls contrast with the endless blue skies, making it visible for miles around. It is one of most cherished treasures of Southern Arizona and one of the most photographed monuments in the region.

As majestic as the exterior architecture is, the interior is even more stunning. As an ongoing passion, Edward McCain has documented more than 120 individual works of art within. Many of his photographs were taken during a three year period, using high-quality studio lighting and, at times, a 40-foot high scaffolding perch, allowing him to see the work in ways visitors cannot. A tiny sampling is presented here in sumptuous color.

McCain reflects, “It is my hope that the viewer of these photographs can simply experience the joy of beholding small glimpses of one of the great treasures of the American Southwest and the World.”
